The X-Files Department Evaluates: The Host

Something killed a man on a Russian cargo ship...and now it is in the USA sewer system. AD Skinner requested me to investigate even though The X-Files were shut down. The creature turns out to be a liver fluke and Agent Scully and I have to dtop it before it finds a new host and reproduces.

One of my best past episodes would be "The Host". The explanation at the end of this episode was so bazaar but quite possible, in my opinion anyway. To think that out of nuclear experimenting, we ourselves were the creator of such a genetic mutation. I felt sorry for this creature and it was one of the most interesting episodes.I think I read somewhere that the actor who played the part of the Fluke Man also wrote and stared in the episode "Small Potatoes", which is another one of my very favorites. Very talented man. I absolutely loved both these episodes.

I thought The Host was a classic XF episode. A solid MOTW. The M and S relationship was true to form. It is an episode that I would definately watch again.

Seen early in second season, this episode introduces someone who would become an invaluable asset to the X-Files cast and crew: Darin Morgan. This actor/writer dons a gory look as the mutated wormlike creature infesting the sewers below the city. It's up to agents Mulder and Scully to find out it's origin and stop it before it takes anymore lives. Although this episode does not refer much to the relationship between Mulder and Scully, it remains a classic because of the interesting plotline and the "colorful" costumes. It's a good hour of TV to watch if you're in the mood from some gritty and gruesome scenery. Not the best X-files episode, but a good one at that.

I must be honest in saying that sometimes I struggle with this episode! Let me tell you why! I don't like worms, I don't like puking, I don't like sewers, and I don't like big worm monsters...all of which are quite abundant in this episode!
This is one of the scarier stand alone episodes of the second season, maybe ever, and like "Little Green Men", it shows how much Mulder and Scully have come to depend on eachother. Even when they're apart. I think that Mulders suspicion of Scully leaking information and then realizing her faithfulness is a huge step for them relationship wise. My pet-peeves aside...All in all this is a pretty good episode! I mean, come on, that monster is really scary and very grose! And it's a very nice twist at the end...We created this monster!

Mulder - "Good, I didn't want to have to go tell Skinner our suspect was a giant, blood sucking worm!"
